Effective tips to improve your child’s dental and oral hygiene

As a parent you have so much to teach your children. It is in the early years that you set the example and help form routines that will benefit your children for the rest of their lives.

An excellent dental oral hygiene routine will protect their teeth from decay and other oral problems. Here are some tips that will get your kids on the right path.

Lead by example. One of the best ways to teach your child anything is to do it yourself. Plan to floss your teeth, brush and rinse in front of your child at least once a day so they can learn by example.

TIPS

Floss holders are easy for little hands to hold and they can be flavored. But remember we do recommend parents floss for their children who are under the age of 9. This is due to the dexterity young children. Also, floss first, then brush!

Flossing before brushing

A child should brush his or her teeth for two full minutes with fluoride toothpaste. Have fun with this.

Consider using a timer on your phone so you can both make sure you’re keeping track of time.

Also, remember to replace your child’s toothbrush every three months. Bring them shopping and allow them to pick their own toothbrush. There are a lot of themed ones available and it might help make brushing time more fun.

To keep the bacteria away we recommend flossing before brushing. There are some great flosses in the market created just for kids.

We recommend a visit to the dentist every six months.
